5 Things You Didn’t Know About Houston
Living in Houston will open your opportunities for entertainment, shopping, and working up to a variety of possibilities. But there is more to this city than just great retail outlets and businesses. Here are some facts about our city thanks to Uptown Post Oak.
Houston, which was set up and planned mainly by Gail Borden Jr of Borden Inc., served as the capital of Texas from 1837 to 1839, but did you know that five other cities were the capital before Houston? These included Harrisburg, Galveston, Columbia, Velasco, and Washington-on-the-Brazos.
If you have lived in Houston for any amount of time you have seen or been to an event at the Reliant Astrodome. Built in 1965 and originally called the Harris County Domed Stadium, this structure was the first domed stadium in the US and the first multipurpose domed stadium in the world.
Houston is also home to over 40 different colleges, universities, and academic institutions, so if you want to study something you can do it here. And if you want to get some culture you can visit one of several museums including the Museum of Fine Arts, the largest art museum in the state and one of the largest in the country outside of LA, Chicago, and Washington DC.
